Adolescents' life experiences - 1992

This study sought to describe adolescents' life experiences in terms of overall life satisfaction and suicidal behavior. Based on the framework developed for a general theory of experience and the specific characteristics of adolescents, we derived hypotheses for the theoretical model of adolescents' life experience. Hypothesis 1: The most important explanatory factors for adolescents' life experience (their social competence) are the material conditions of their lives and the social relationships that contribute to their socialization (socialization conditions hypothesis) hypothesis 2: Adolescents' life experience is influenced-through a series of factors related to general life satisfaction-by defensive (suicidal-type) behavior (the environmental reaction hypothesis). Hypothesis 3: There are common explanatory factors for life satisfaction and suicidal behavior. Even though these factors are not well understood, it is reasonable to assume that life experience can only be understood through a simultaneous consideration of life satisfaction and defensive behavior.
