Indicators of development in Romanian villages - 1998

This database is a special type of database, constructed not as a result of field research but by aggregating several indicators used to analyze the level of development of Romanian villages. It includes, on the one hand, primary statistical indicators sourced from the national institute of social and economic statistics and the institute of geography (regarding population, housing, arable land, etc.), as well as derived indicators calculated by professor dumitru sandu based on factor analyses. The database contains all of Romania's villages (12,475 in total-as of the date the database was created), organized by communes and counties, along with 48 variables featuring various statistics that are extremely useful for assessing the level of community poverty. Detailed descriptions of these variables can be found in <a href="http://Www.sociologieromaneasca.ro/Numere/4_1999.htm">Revista Sociologie romaneasca</A>, no. 4/1999. The "qlifeur" variable is calculated as a factor score derived from the variables "inf," "emig," and "natrezid" (residual birth rate, after controlling for age).
